So, it is that time of year. The time of year where we write out our New Years Resolutions and make these impossible goals for getting on track with 2020. The New year, New You goals and Meal Prep. I am a firm believer in goals. I have many. But I never make them at the beginning of the year. I make them daily, weekly and monthly.

But I know this is the beginning of a new decade also and many people’s goals are huge and they are for the next ten years. So what are some of your goals?

My goals include getting my coaching certificate for Keto and Intermittent fasting. My goal is to help as many of you as I can to become healthier and more active. If I can stop hurting myself.

Short Story about my New Year

The short story there I decided it was a good idea to help my husband move a super heavy couch with my 13-year-old autistic son. I did learn a valuable lesson though. Don’t ever tell a boy who does everything literally to drop it down. Because that is exactly what he did. He dropped it and I, in turn, fell with a double recliner couch landing on my knee and hand. It hyperextended my knee and bruised my entire hand. Nothing broke but I was out of commission for a while on the blog and I am sorry about that.

I am not a blogger that has 6 weeks of content planned out. I am a spur of the moment blogger at this time. I read the emails that you send me and the comments that I get through my messenger or from the group. I would love for you all to join and share your journey and ask as many questions as you have.

What Do You Struggle With? 

My biggest struggle is finding time to meal prep. I want to do it. My daughter is constantly on me to do it. She said it would help me achieve my goals and she is correct. Why do I say that?

Meal prepping makes your week simple. You know what you are going to have. For the most part, it is prepared or at least all the ingredients are ready to go.

Meal prepping can help reduce the stress that comes with trying to eat healthier. Solving all your food decisions in advance really frees up some of your willpower and mental stress, helping you reach your goals faster and with more ease.

Seven Benefits of Meal Prep in the New Year

Temptation Removal

You remove the temptation of just going and getting something out of the fridge or from the snack aisle in your local grocery store or a quick meal at a fast-food place. Meal prepping ensures you always have options that fit your dietary needs because you’ve planned in advance and brought your own food (or have something easy to grab from the fridge if you get a case of the munchies while watching TV).

Total Control

You have total control of what you eat. And I am something of a control freak. I really wish you could see me. LOL.

When you prepare your food you have control of what is it. You won’t be adding things such as added sugars or preservatives. You won’t have to guess to know it falls in your macros and you know you will like it. You are also ensuring you get the best-quality options and more fresh ingredients because you are selecting them yourself.

Hunger Management

You will have food at hand, which means you can eat when you feel hungry instead of waiting until you are starving and binging on the first thing you find that sounds good. I know that the more you do Keto the less you get hungry, but there are those times that you want something to eat. Maybe because of stress, or hormone spikes or any other reasons and if you have a snack that is planned that helps.

Time Saver

Meal Prep is a time saver. I know I said I need to find time to do it. But really think of it. If I take one Sunday afternoon to prepare all my meals for the week how much more time after work would I have. My even routine as it is now. I get off work at 6 go to the store, try and decide what to get or dinner, get home by 7 and then cook for 30 – 60 minutes. That is 2 hours wasted just trying to get it all together and then finally eat at 8. Not good. I could save 10-12 hours a week by planning and preparing them on a Sunday all at once.

Money Saver

So how do you save money meal prepping? Easy you are not doing what I do and buying things that I don’t need or spending money on restaurant food. When I go to the store I spend at least $50 a night for one meal and some things for kids lunch the next day, at a restaurant, it is much more and I still have to go to the store to by lunch for the kids and husband next day. Family of five. Ugh. But if I make a weekly shopping list, which I have done before I spend $150 for a week. Now let’s do the math:

7 X 50= 350 (ouch) buying and cooking the food nightly

7X50 + 20×5=450 (double ouch) restaurant food and lunches for family and me daily

$150 a week for all meals by meal prepping

I save $200-300 a week if I just get a good routine of meal prepping. Over a year I can save $10,400-15,600 a year. Dang Meal planning here I come.

Waste Eliminator

This goes hand and hand with Money Saver. Seriously have you ever cleaned out your fridge or freezer and thrown away so much food and just thought about how much money you just threw in the garbage. I just did that and it is sickening. Vegetable in the drawers, restaurant containers, leftovers. Ugh, the list goes on and on. But why? Because I got too much or didn’t eat all of the restaurant food. But $100 of dollars in the trash. Nope, not going to do that anymore.

The more you meal plan the more you will know exactly how much you need of the ingredients to get you by for the week and you can set up a budget to help you do that. I can see my self saving time and money and less waste if I just plan out week to week and buy groceries once a week instead of daily. How about you?

Stress Remover

Now, this a big one for me. I hate picking out foods to eat. I like having a plan. But I never do. But from this day forward I will. I am making this one of my New Years’ goals or New Decade Goals and Do MEAL PREP and making a new me and new you in this New Year. I hate stress and meal planning, in the beginning, maybe stressful but I think in the end it will save me a lot of stress and headaches by doing it and it will also help me reach my other goals such as losing that 40 lbs that I want to lose because I won’t have the slips I do when I just go to the store without a plan.

It may also cut out the stress of money a little. Since I will be saving by having on hand what we need and not buying extra that will be thrown in the trash later.

Best Keto Plans for Meal Planning

That is the main reason I love Speed Keto, it has all your meals planned out for the week. But the next step I need to take is doing the actual prepping. That way when I get home from a long day at the day job I don’t have to get everything together I can just heat and eat. I don’t have the temptation to stop by some restaurant and pick up something because it is easier because I am tired.

That is one of my major downfalls in my Keto Journey. I get tired and I don’t feel like cooking. Or as you all know by now I don’t like to cook. But as of this year, I am going to do some meal prepping and see if that can help me hit my weight loss and health goals. I like the way Keto makes me feel, I like the way I see myself as I get healthier. So I am taking this new year and new decade to make a new me with meal prep.
